SWEET HOME, Ore. – A wildfire burning in Linn County has grown to 90 acres, fire officials say.
A total of 47 people are on the fire, which is located about seven miles south of Detroit near Highway 22.
Firefighters are making significant progress fighting the blaze. A helicopter is continuing to drop water on the fire while crews on the ground attack it directly. Containment lines are being built with two dozers helping strengthen the lines.
Sweet Home District Ranger and Agency Administrator Nikki Swanson thanked everyone who answered the call for the Bruler Fire.
A closure is in effect for large portions of Forest Service lands south of Detroit Lake, west of Highway 22 and north of Highway 20. It also includes the Middle Santiam Wilderness, Daly Lake, and the trail network known as the Old Cascade Crest trail system.
People are also asked to avoid Bureau of Land Management lands along the Quartzville Scenic Byway, including Yellowbottom Campground and Old Miner’s Meadow Group Site.
The fire was reported on July 12.
