EUGENE, Ore. -- With thousands of fans set to be in the stands of Hayward Field for next week's U.S. Olympic Trials, businesses in the area are eager to welcome some of the largest crowds they've seen since the start of the pandemic.

"We've really been building up as a community to this day, and now that this day is here and with us, it's just been a breath of fresh air," said Kathryn Allen, general manager of Inn at the 5th.

According to her, both Inn at the 5th and The Gordon Hotel have completely booked up between now and the conclusion of the trials.

"It's a great feeling to have everyvbody and to welcome them back," Allen said.

Dawn Sellars is a co-owner at The Sandwich League, and she said her business has already seen the impact of the mass gatherings with the NCAA track and field championships.

"Yesterday was kind of off the charts," Sellars said. "We are really looking forward to when we can go to regular business."
