ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A new workplace coronavirus outbreak has been announced at CHI Mercy Health Mercy Medical Center.

According to the Douglas Public Health Network, county health officials are working directly with affected staff. DPHN made the announcement about the outbreak in its daily COVID-19 press release on Tuesday.

The Oregon Health Authority is only releasing information on workplace outbreaks when there are at least five cases confirmed where there are at least 30 employees. Click here to see a list of the reported workplace outbreaks as of July 29 across the state, not including Mercy Medical's outbreak.

CHI Mercy Health Mercy Medical Center is a 174-bed medical center with more than 1,000 employees, 225 medical staff, and 300 volunteers.

According to DPHN, the Oregon Health Authority will be releasing more information about Mercy's coronavirus outbreak in its next weekly COVID-19 update, set to be released on Thursday.

The outbreak comes two weeks after KEZI 9 News spoke to a Douglas County doctor associated with Mercy Medical, who's been outspoken against Gov. Kate Brown's coronavirus response. Dr. John Powell is on CHI Mercy Health's Mercy Foundation Board of Directors
