ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The owner of a Roseburg drive-in woke up Sunday morning to find a car in the side of the building after police said a driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Police said the driver, Jimmy Dunn, 49, of Roseburg was driving eastbound on West Harvard Avenue around 6 a.m. on Sunday when he fell asleep and barrelled through Pete's Drive-In.

Fire crews said the car burst into flames, but they were able to get it out quickly.

KEZI 9 News spoke with Derell Orth, the owner of Pete's Drive-In, who said he is thankful no one was in the restaurant at the time of the crash.

He said any other day, there would be employees prepping food for the day. However, the restaurant is closed on Sundays.

"I might be the owner of Pete's Drive-In, but in Roseburg, Pete's is one of the last surviving icons and it's been in business since 1965, so I'm the owner, but more I'm the current caretaker of an icon to this community," Orth said.

Police said the driver was not injured either.

Orth said he plans to rebuild the drive-in within the next three months.

Police said Dunn was charged with reckless driving.
