EUGENE, Ore. -- The multiple cars that struck and killed Jayla Hawkins-Ellis have been located, police said on Wednesday, but no charges have been filed.

Hawkins-Ellis, 17, was struck around 8:45 p.m., Feb. 4, while walking on Interstate 105 near Coburg Road.

Hawkins-Ellis, who was originally from Reedsport, was reported missing in August 2018. It is unclear how or why she travelled to Eugene.

A gas station employee at the Buy 2 on the corner of Coburg and MLK Boulevard said that Jayla came in to buy soda at her store last week.

There are various programs and resources in Eugene aimed to help runaway or homeless youth. Looking Glass operates Station 7, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The facility serves youths from age 11 to 17.

Kirstin London, director of runaway and homeless services, said Looking Glass operates a street outreach team which works six days a week in Eugene and Springfield.

"We're building rapport on the streets by getting their basic needs, education and information out to the young people and ideally they are going to come in and be more likely to engage us," London said.

Youth are able to seek emergency shelter at Station 7, or they can come in to meet their basic needs. For youth who are anxious about coming in, they are encouraged to take a tour of the space.

“Ultimately we are a safe place for kids to come and stay, and we need that message to ring loud and clear," London said.

Looking Glass's crisis hotline is 541-689-3111.
