EUGENE, Ore. -- City Club of Eugene is looking to reimagine a new generation of monuments for the city.
The non-profit organization is launching a project along with several other groups to engage youth in finding important contemporary subjects and messages and designing monuments to convey them.
In the first week of April, students at Kelly Middle School will do a quick review of the nature of monuments, using examples from across the country and from local Indigenous people. They will also learn about some notable Oregonians and historical events. Students will then identify monument-worthy people or events in their own lives and design a monument to celebrate them.
City Club of Eugene is looking for more project participants. For more information, visit its website.
