Eugene, Ore. -- The first two weeks of June were supposed to mark a triumphant return of Civic Park and not only the start of Lane United's season but kick off a new era of Kidsports here in Eugene. But due to Coronavirus, that will have to wait.
"Our relationship with the Eugene Civic Alliance in moving into the kidsports field house at Civic Park has certainly been delayed inthat regard," says Kidsports Executive Director Bev Smith. "It's been a challenge to have our plans move forward."
The Kidsports field house at Civic Park was slated to open some time in mid June, but executive director Bev Smith says that safety comes first and any type of reopening celebration may have to wait for the fall. In the meantime, they've been tinkering with plans ahead of Phase II and eventual Phase III.
"Right now we're still in a delay," Smith continues. Our staff is really working hard behind the scenes to introduce some programs that we're going to have in mid July."
Smith is hoping that by the fall of 2020, there will be a time to have a grand reopening the whole community can be a part of.
