EUGENE, Ore -- Two Oregon universities are getting ready to face off on the football field and in the blood donation centers.
This November is the Civil War Blood Drive at the University of Oregon and Oregon State University.
The drive started on November 1st and will continue through the 19th.
Kasey Zerbe with Lane Bloodworks said it's a great time for students to donate, as there is a critical need for blood during the winter.
"As soon as the holidays start, you know it starts getting cold out, people start getting sick and also people travel so donations tend to drop off during the holiday season," Zerbe said. "So one of the awesome things about the civil war blood drive is it helps us get ready for the holidays with our blood inventory."
Lane Bloodworks collects blood this week from the University of Oregon campus, while Red Cross is working at OSU to do the same.
There is no clear winner so far, but Zerbe said they have seen dozens of new donors.
They are hoping they will continue to get more donors throughout the week.
