SWEET HOME, Ore. – A climber died after falling from Three Fingered Jack on Sunday, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said.

Todd Adelman, 19, of Aumsville was climbing near the summit when the rocks gave away, and he fell hundreds of feet, a witness said.

The report came in at about 1 p.m., and multiple resources responded.

Adelman was found at the bottom of a cliff where he was pronounced dead. The elevation was about 7,300 feet. Responders worked through the night to carry Adelman out.

Detectives said Three Fingered Jack is a popular climbing spot 71 miles east of Sweet Home. The mountain has poor rock quality and there are steep cliffs near the summit.

The Lane County, Benton County, and Jefferson County sheriff’s offices assisted, as well as Corvallis, Eugene and Deschutes mountain rescues.
