Coast Guard rescues hiker off cliff

Man was one of five who were stranded by a high tide.

HUG POINT, Ore. -- A Coast Guard helicopter swooped in and plucked a man off a seaside cliff Monday night, one of several people in the northwest who became stranded by a high tide.

Officials say a hiker was stuck 100 feet above the water around 5 p.m. near Hug Point.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter arrived on scene at 5:36 p.m., officials said, and the rescue was complete by 5:45.

The hiker was not injured.
