COOS BAY, Ore. – Two stranded hikers were rescued from a cliff near Coos Bay by a Coast Guard helicopter on Wednesday afternoon.

The Coast Guard responded after getting a call from a woman whose daughter and husband were stranded on a cliff near Cape Arago State Park. The man had injured his ankle and needed help.

A rescue helicopter crew out of North Bend was conducting training nearby when the call came in at 2:10 p.m., and it responded to the hikers.

The two hikers were hoisted off of the cliff at about 2:30 p.m. and taken to the Bay Area Hospital, where medical staff was awaiting their arrival.

The Coast Guard reminds hikers and mariners to always carry a reliable means of communication to call for help in case of an emergency.
