DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Christine Goodwin was chosen as interim representative for Oregon House District 2 on Thursday.
Commissioners from Douglas, Josephine and Jackson counties unanimously voted to appoint Goodwin during a Thursday meeting. The Secretary of State's office said it is awaiting the tabulated votes.
"When I commit to do something, I show up. I do it strong. I will do serious work as state representative," she said during the meeting.
Goodwin said she is currently the administrator of a private optometry practice owned by her and her husband. She also served on the South Umpqua School Board and as an interim Douglas County Commissioner in 2018. Goodwin is a Republican.
"I want to be a trustworthy source. I want to be out there in the community, make sure people have the availability to ask questions about what's going on in their state government, that I'm there to answer those questions," she said. "I will be an honest, trustworthy source of information for them."
Goodwin will replace Rep. Gary Leif who died of cancer in July. She will fill his seat for the rest of his term. The public will vote on the district's next representative in the 2022 general election.
