VENETA, Ore. -- West Valley Dance Studio in Veneta was burglarized Saturday evening, and now community members are stepping up to help the business recover.

Sherry Deptuch owns the dance studio and has been teaching kids how to dance for the last two years. Her studio creates a safe and fun learning environment for nearly 70 students. Shelly Hamlin owns a hair salon next door and she said Deptuch's dance studio gives many opportunities to kids.

"It's just tragic that someone would come in and violate that and have that much disrespect," Hamlin said.

The burglars broke in through the back of the dance studio and made themselves at home. They heated up food and smoked cigarettes before stealing laptops, TVs, groceries, speakers and other items. Deptuch said the items stolen are valued in the thousands of dollars.

Once the Veneta community caught wind of this, many people began donating items like a security camera system and new TVs. Deptuch said she is grateful for the community support.

"Really the community went above and beyond what I could ever ask for," Deptuch said. "Just their love and their kind words have been the best part of it all."
