EUGENE, Ore. - Nearly 300 community members got together today to pack more than 10,000 meals for their neighbors in Eugene and Springfield.

With the help of Generosity Feeds, people of all different backgrounds and views got together to help feed hungry children in Lane County by packing meals that contain black beans and rice.

Organizers said the most unique and important part of this event was the way community members came together. They said from cannabis growers to conservative business owners, everyone put their views aside and worked to help those in need.

"Community is knowing one another, caring for one another, meeting needs together,” said Aaron Box, an event organizer. “When we come together in the context of service, we're not coming together because we are the same, we're coming together because we can be engaged together.”

Box said the food would primarily be going to students who use the free and reduced lunch programs. They’ll be distributed through programs at four local schools. He said very often those children are wondering on weekends and evenings where their next meal will come from, and this gives them an option.
