DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- In the 2nd District State Representative Election, there appeared to be some confusion.

Newly-appointed Representative Gary Leif and former seat-holder Dallas Heard were neck and neck all night.

Heard vacated his seat earlier this year to be considered for the appointment to replace Jeff Kruse.

However, Heard couldn’t get his name off the ballot and actually beat Leif by 13 votes.

“A lot of people that voted for Dallas, Senator Heard, thought they were voting for Senator Heard, you know, for that,” said Leif. “But, that doesn’t come until November. So, it was more of an informational, hey, here we are.”

Leif did secure the Republican nomination for the November ballot, and this vote was merely a formality.
