EUGENE, Ore. — Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk will be visiting Eugene on Oct. 27 as part of its “Exposing Critical Racism Tour.”

The Eventbrite description says: "Come hear Charlie Kirk fight racist theories on America’s college campuses.”

The location for the event is listed as The Graduate in Eugene.

A spokesperson with the University of Oregon said that the event is not affiliated with the university or any of its organizations.

KEZI talked to Duane Soubirous, a graduate student at UO.

"I know he has gone to a lot of college campuses, and there's been a lot of outcry," Soubirous said. "I don't know what he'll say, but I do believe in the First Amendment. If someone wants to listen to him, they should be able to hear them speak. I personally don't want to listen to him and won't be there."

Other students felt differently and said they look forward to hearing Kirk speak.

Eugene resident Jonathan Behr shared his thoughts.

"Charlie is a bit of a divisive character," Behr said. "His reputation precedes him. The flyer makes it seem like it's sponsored by the University of Oregon."

Behr said Kirk has influence on a lot of young minds.

"I think definitely people who are younger don't have as much experience and are more likely to be influenced by these types of things. I don't think we can stop someone from wanting to further their ideology and talk to people, but it does kind of feel like people like him are preying on minds," Behr said.

One KEZI viewer, Kevin Doe, said he has no intention of attending the event and believes it could even end up getting canceled.

"I believe in the original intent of the First Amendment, which means I believe that people I disagree with have the right to speak out as well," Doe said.

Turning Point USA's mission is to build conservative networks on high school and college campuses all across the country.

KEZI has reached out to Turning Point USA and The Graduate Eugene for comment but has not heard back.
