ROSEBURG, Ore. – Douglas County Parks Department completed construction on the Windy Cove County Park - A Loop restroom and shower replacement.
According to the parks department, work began mid-November 2017, to replace the 60-year-old restroom and shower at Windy Cove County Park – A Loop. The new facility has four individual showers, new stainless steel structures, and is ADA accessible.
This project was possible due to a grant from Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s County Opportunity Grant program. The grant provided $157,000 in matching funds for the $320,000 project.
Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice, who is liaison to the Douglas County Parks Department said, “These grant programs offer counties ways to improve services, while alleviating some of the cost to us. These facilities will be used for decades to come.”
The facilities open to the public in March 2018, when the campground is re-opened for the season, according to the parks department.
“We are excited to have the facilities ready for the 2018 camping season,” said Rocky Houston, Parks Department Director. “This will make a tremendous improvement to camping at Windy Cove, especially since both restrooms and showers have been replaced.”
This project is part of the broader capital improvement plan for Douglas County Parks. According to the department, it is reinvesting usage fees in repairing and replacing park assets to ensure the outdoor recreational experiences remain for future generations.
