CORVALLIS, Ore. -- After faulty material delayed construction, crews are back on the Oregon State University campus building the new facility for OSU's College of Forestry.

Officials with OSU estimate the new three-story facility which will be known as Peavy Hall will cost $79 million. They said it will be the largest structure made out of cross-laminated timber in the Pacific Northwest.

The facility was first proposed in 2014, but back on March 14 officials said layers of flooring panel made of cross-laminated timber became "de-laminated" and fell.

Officials said the manufacturer of the panel improperly used pre-heated wood which resulted in poor bonding.

Although there was a delay in construction officials with the university said they don't plan on paying any more than they initially planned, and believe the project is back on track to serve students for decades.

"We believe that over the generations there will be thousands of students who will use this building as a living laboratory of not only the wood products industry of forestry, but of cross-laminated timber technology and innovative use of mass timber in the construction of building throughout the United States, if not the world," said Steve Clark, a spokesperson with OSU.

Clark said during their four-month delay, the university and their contractor inspected every panel and material in the building to ensure there would be no more hazards.

Officials expect the project to be complete by January 2020.
