COOS BAY, Ore. -- A single vehicle crash sent a Coos Bay man to the hospital with life threatening injuries early Monday morning.
At 3:31 a.m., officers located a vehicle flipped onto its roof in a yard at 1180 Ocean Ct. in Coos Bay. The driver, Victor Chavez, was trapped inside the vehicle and was badly injured. He was unconscious and unresponsive.
Chavez was freed from the car and transported to Bay Area Hospital with what appeared to be life threatening injuries. Officials say Chavez was the only occupant in the vehicle.
Prior to the crash, one officer saw Chavez traveling eastbound on Ocean Boulevard at a high rate of speed. However, the officer was traveling westbound and lost sight of the vehicle as he turned his patrol vehicle around.
The crash scene revealed that there was significant property damage to several private properties as well as damage to a parked vehicle and a large boat.
According to officials, a bag containing what appeared to be illegal narcotics was found in Chavez’s vehicle.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and is being conducted by the Coos Bay Police Department with the assistance of the North Bend Police Department.
