CORVALLIS, ORE., -- From April 8-14, the Corvallis - Benton County Public Library will accept non-perishable food items in place of fines.

They will accept food items such as canned goods, peanut butter, dried beans and boxed meals. All of the food will be donated to the Linn-Benton Food Share.

The library will reduce fines by $1 for every item, up to $5.  Shaun Hearn, the library's circulation supervisor said they have seen lots of participation in the past, with some people donating food even if they don't have fines. Hearn said he hopes it will have a positive impact on the community.

"I understand this is a time of year when food donations get a little thinner and we hope to offset that," Hearn said. "So for us it's a fun way to help out in the community [and] help our patrons pay down their fines."

You can donate at every branch of the library.
