CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A Corvallis woman was arrested Saturday, accused of setting fires near two illegal campsites.
Kassandra Schumacher, 25, was taken to the Benton County Jail. She faces charges of first-degree arson and second-degree criminal mischief. Her bail has been set at $112,500.
The Corvallis police and fire departments responded to the Corvallis BMX track at 115 SE Chapman Place at about 3:15 a.m. to a report of a large fire. Firefighters put out the fire.
Police said another fire was put out by a man who’d been sleeping in a tent nearby. They said the man lost multiple items in the fire, and he provided the suspect’s name.
No one was injured.
Officers said they found Schumacher hiding in the grass nearby. The fires were intentionally set, investigators said.
Schumacher was arrested previously on June 11 and charged with reckless burning, possession of methamphetamine and interfering with a peace officer after police said she started a small brush fire near the Marys River in the 2500 block of SW Philomath Boulevard.
