COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – A man who killed his father with a baseball bat in Cottage Grove was sentenced on Tuesday.
Britton Hicks was sentenced to 22.5 years for first-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault.
Father Stanley Hicks, 69, was assaulted on Aug. 26, 2019, and died two days later.
Court documents say Hicks claimed he and his father had been fighting all day at their townhouse on South 8th Street.
He told investigators that his father had hit him with the bat first and he took the bat and hit his father until he stopped moving and could not retaliate. However, police did not observe swelling where Hicks said he was hit.
