OTTER ROCK, Ore. – Two Cottage Grove men were cited in Lincoln County after deputies said they were trespassing on a beach in Otter Rock.
Residents reported seeing two men disregarding a park closed sign at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday. A chain link fence had been put up to block public beach access due to the coronavirus-related closure.
The men were reportedly seen climbing over the fence and passing over their surfboards before heading down to the beach.
A couple of hours later, a deputy saw men matching the description climbing back over the fence.
The sheriff’s office said the men were identified as Max Gause, 20, and Konnor Owens, 19, both of Cottage Grove.
They reportedly told deputies a resident had told them the beach was closed and it would be trespassing to climb over the fence.
Gause and Owens were cited for second-degree criminal trespass.
Deputies have been patrolling the area following increased reports of trespassing complaints on public and private properties and reports of people gathering despite the governor’s stay-at-home order.
