ROSEBURG, Ore.-- Gov. Kate Brown will begin accepting applications from counties to reopen starting this Friday.

Douglas County officials confirmed Tuesday they were on a conference call with Brown and eight other counties discussing plans about reopening their local economies. Then Wednesday it was announced that the governor will be accepting applications from counties if they meet certain criteria.

Those criteria include sufficient hospital capacity and personal protective equipment in case of a COVID-19 surge, widespread testing, and a robust system to contract trace anyone who may have come into contact with the virus. If the county meets these requirements, the earliest they can slowly start to open up will be May 15.

Brown will have a press conference Thursday at 11 a.m. to present new guidance for businesses and counties to reopen safely. KEZI 9 News will carry that press conference live.
