SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Pioneer Parkway West has reopened following a crash Tuesday night that damaged a utility pole.
City officials alerted the public to the closure of the southbound lanes between the Hyden Bridge roundabout and Q Street on social media Wednesday morning.
Initially, officials said the closure could last the entire day. However, the road was back open by about 3:30 p.m.
James Anderson, a city employee who was directing traffic, said drivers can get confused when a closure puts a wrench in their plans. He said he saw a crash near the Hyden Bridge roundabout during the closure and said other drivers were stopping in the middle of the road.
"Controlling traffic is a very high-risk job," Anderson said. "We're out there trying to do what we are paid to do. We could really benefit from people just slowing down and being more observant."
One lane will be closed on Thursday for further repairs.
