COBURG, Ore. -- After nearly three years, work is underway on a new building in Coburg that will house apartments and businesses.

Alan Wells and his wife Peggy broke ground on their project, called the Coburg Inn, Wednesday afternoon.

They told KEZI when they initially bought the vacant space near North Willamette and McKenzie streets they wanted to build a three-story hotel. Now, their plan is to put up a $2 million two-story, 10,000-square-foot multi-use building with Creswell Coffee, two other retailers and eight apartments.

"We're doing it because it's a good time to do it, and we think it's scaled right for the community, and it will be a lot of fun to have it,” Alan Wells said. “So, I think it will be good for the town."

The Wellses said they appreciate the dozens of people that made it out for the groundbreaking. They expect construction to be complete by April 2019.
