EUGENE, Ore. -- A fire at a Dollar Tree Store on West 11th Avenue is being investigated by the Eugene Police Department.
Mark Dahl of Eugene-Springfield Fire Department was investigating another fire down the road at the LTD bus station when he saw smoke and started hearing the calls come in.
Dahl responded to the scene since he was nearby and saw flames coming out of the back of the Dollar Tree Store at 3600 West 11th Ave. He said the flames were spreading fast, but that fire crews were able to get the fire under control quickly.
The fire broke out just after 9 p.m. Sunday in vegetation behind the store at 3600 West 11th Avenue. The trash and dumpster area burned and part of the building was charred.
"Looks like there may have been at some point some people hanging out back here. There's evidence of that. We don't know what actually started the fire or whether it was intentionally set or accidentally set. We just don't know yet," Dahl said.
Officials said no one was hurt and there was minimal damage done including a drain down spout that melted as a result.
