JUNCTION CITY, Ore. – Three people are dead following a pair of crashes near Junction City.

Oregon State Police said two cars collided on Highway 99 near Meadowview Road around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

One driver died on the scene and the other driver died at the hospital. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

The other crash happened around 2:45 a.m. near Highway 99 West and Lingo Lane. Authorities said the driver hit a tree, was thrown from the vehicle, and was pronounced dead on scene. The cause of this fatal crash is also under investigation.

Officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation said both stretches of the highway where the crashes occurred are heavily used every day. They said they continuously monitor all the roadways to determine how they are being used, and they review crash rates and feedback from users to determine if and when safety enhancements are needed.

Officials with ODOT said whenever crashes happen, for whatever reason, it is a good reminder to all of us to drive safely with eyes on the road and to slow down.
