Darren Bucich is the Fire Chief at the McKenzie Fire and Rescue. His district runs from the Springfield city limits to Blue River.

“We are trying to re-populate areas that didn't suffer any damage and are also trying to get electricity back there,” Bucich said. “I think that's going to happen soon.”

Bucich said from Goodpasture on up is extremely hazardous.

“They’re working on cutting hazardous trees down, but we make no promises for those folks above the dam," Bucich said. "Below the dam, we are feeling pretty confident that with the coordinated effort with the sheriff’s department and the fire folks that we should be able to pop into that area within the next couple of days, if not today.”

The district has been working with the county and commissioners to help speed things up with the cleanup effort.

Bucich said the goal is to help community members get their lives together and back to normal as much as possible.

“We are pushing hard to get people back to their homes. And we are also pushing hard to get people back to their areas that were lost,” Bucich said.

Damon Simmons is the spokesman for the Oregon State Marshal Red Team. He spoke about the impact the wet weather is having on the work crews are doing.

“We got just the right amount of rain," Simmons said. "It cleared out the air a little bit and made it so people can breathe a little bit more easily. So all around, it's just a good situation."
