EUGENE, Ore. -- Despite a mounting backlog of more than 130,000 requests across the state as of Tuesday, many seemed surprised at the efficiency of getting an appointment and service at the DMV.
“It’s not difficult. We just went online and got a phone call and set up the appointment and they told us when we need to be here," said Joe Lowndes, a Eugene resident. "They’re really efficient and they’re on top of it and I was actually pleasantly surprised by that."
On June 2, DMV reopened 38 offices for limited service and by appointment only. Since then, more offices have opened. As of Tuesday, 131,053 requests had been made and nearly 40,000 appointments scheduled.
Despite the volume, many said they were surprised by the smooth experience.
“I came in a few minutes early and was literally out within 10 minutes tops. Just go online, fill out the application. They got back to me in a couple days and service was real quick and easy," said Scott Burford, a Eugene resident.
DMV is only offering certain services at its offices. That includes:
- Driver license, permit and ID card issuances
- Driver knowledge tests
- Disabled parking permits
- Farm endorsements
- VIN inspections
