EUGENE, Ore. -- The investigation into a standoff at a south Eugene townhome is taking longer than expected, Lane County District Attorney Patty Perlow said Friday.
The incident happened April 13 in the 100 block of Westbrook Way.

Police said Scott Edward Gardner, 53, barricaded himself inside the residence before firing at police.
Perlow said the two officers who fired at the man were Aaron Johns and Tyler Richards, both assigned to Eugene Police Department's SWAT team.

Gardner was hit by return fire and was taken to the hospital. Perlow said he remains in stable condition.
The deadly force investigation is ongoing, Perlow said. However, she said it's taking longer than usual "due to a lack of understanding by the SWAT commander on the (Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team) protocols and some complications at the scene."
