Deputies investigate fatal gyrocopter crash

Authorities found a crashed helicopter burning on private property.

ROSEBURG, Ore. – Deputies are investigating a fatal gyrocopter crash eight miles south of Roseburg Thursday afternoon.

Reports came in around 2:15 p.m. that a small aircraft crashed near the 2300 block of Glengary Loop Road.

Deputies, Winston Police, and Douglas County Fire District #2 responded.

Authorities found a crashed helicopter burning on private property.

At least one person died in the crash.

An official with the Federal Aviation Administration told KEZI 9 News the circumstances of the crash are unknown.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office and the National Transportation Safety Board are working with the sheriff’s office.
