CANYONVILLE, Ore. -- Cedar Cascade Higgs, 23, has been arrested following a standoff at a residence in Canyonville on Wednesday.
At about 10 a.m. deputies arrived to the 400 block of SW Fourth Place, where there had been multiple reports of a man who was firing several rounds outside of a residence.
Higgs eventually came out of the house, got down on the ground and was taken into custody by 4 p.m., deputies said. They said Higgs was found with at least two firearms, a handgun and a rifle.
Detectives, who are continuing to investigate, believe Higgs fired over twenty rounds during the incident.
Officials said they believe the standoff was releated to an incident that occured Tuesday night.
“We did have law enforcement contact with him last night during a traffic stop," said Sheriff John Hamlin. "This contact today may be some hold over from last night.”
Officials said they believe the suspect was the only person in the house at the time.
They said they contacted family members to help with negotiations.
Multiple law enforcement officers from several jurisdictions assisted the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Residents who live in in the area were asked to lock themselves inside their homes. The public was asked to avoid the area.
Higgs is being charged with unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, disorderly conduct and reckless engardering.
