OAKRIDGE, Ore. – The assault suspect authorities have been searching for since Thursday morning is Travis Gerlits, 41, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said. Gerlits is believed to have his 3-year-old son with him.

Authorities said he may no longer be in the Brice Creek area, and they are asking anyone with information to call 541-682–4141. They also said to not contact Gerlits as he may be armed.

The Lane County Sheriff's Office was getting aircraft to help in the search Thursday due to concerns about dropping temperatures.

Deputies responded to an assault call Thursday morning near Oakridge, leading to a low-speed pursuit in the Brice Creek area. Later the suspect's vehicle was found on a forest service road, and deputies said Gerlits ran into the woods.

Lane County sheriff's deputies are working with Oakridge police and Oregon State Police. The investigation is ongoing.
