COOS BAY, Ore.-- A man was arrested Friday after allegedly punching his mother, fleeing police and attempting to stab a K9, causing a nearby school to go into lockdown.

According to the Coos County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Shawn Hampton hit his mother and held a knife to her in a residence on the 60,000 block of Brookwood Road just before noon. She was able to escape and attempted to call 911. Hampton took the phone from her and broke two other phones in the home as she called for help.

Deputies arrived at the residence and found his mother on the roadway crying. Hampton allegedly told her that anybody who went inside would be killed. He then fled out the back of the home and ran towards the Light House School, which was placed on lockdown.

K9 Odin and his handler located Hampton. Officials said that he tried to stab Odin with a kitchen knife, but the K9 was protected by his harness and was not injured.

Hampton was arrested and charged with domestic menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and other charges.
