DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Residents near Curtin in northern Douglas County are trying to figure out what has been going on at a neighbor's home after seeing a heavy law enforcement presence over the last two days.

On Thursday, residents that spoke with KEZI said the Douglas County Sheriff's Office had been at a home on the outskirts of Curtin since at least 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.

When our crew first arrived at the home around 8 p.m. on Thursday, deputies had a large safe on the front porch of the home.

They were using crowbars, axes and the help of local locksmiths to pry the door open. Once they got it open, they started taking out multiple boxes that were different sizes.

Neighbor Kathy Benno said she's not surprised to see law enforcement at the home.

"I'm not. None of us are surprised. He's just so off, the man who lives next door," Benno said. "He's just off. He shoots guns at four o'clock in the morning. He shoots a lot of ammunition and it's very scary for us. We live in this place because it's quiet and nice, and now it's not."

Benno said deputies were also at the home on Wednesday but weren't there nearly as long as they were on Thursday.

This is a developing story. Stay with KEZI for the latest information.
