ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Douglas County group that has been making masks will stop production starting May 8.

The Douglas County Helpers began more than a month ago via Facebook. They were making masks for medical workers, essential businesses and community members, free of charge.

However, with a decline in coronavirus cases in Douglas County, organizers said it was time for a break.

“I think it’s made a huge impact,” said Julie Hammond, co-organizer. “I think it’s been very positive. There was a lot of people who came through here teary and grateful.”

Hammond said they closed their GoFundMe page for now, as they are no longer accepting donations.

However, she said they’ll leave their Facebook page open as a resource for people to find masks.
