DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore-- The Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team reported the county's third coronavirus related death Sunday.
County Public Health Officer Dr. Robert Dannenhoffer confirmed that the Douglas County resident was a 70-year-old woman who died at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland on Saturday.
Officials said that she tested positive for the virus on August 9 and was initially hospitalized in Eugene before being transferred to Portland on Thursday.
In a statement, Commissioner Tim Freeman said, "This is truly another sad day in our county with the news of a third resident succumbing to this virus. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, our families and the members of our DCCRT Team send out our sincere condolences and prayers to the family. This is again a sobering reminder that the COVID-19 virus is still active in our county and in our communities. We continue to urge all of you, as the citizens of Douglas County to take all the appropriate precautions to stop this virus."
It is not known if the woman had underlying medical conditions. The county said it would not release more information in the interest of privacy.
