ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Dr. Anthony Fauci recently suggested that federal indoor mask mandates should be lifted soon, and now Douglas County residents are sharing their thoughts.
Sunday on ABC News, Fauci was asked whether it's time to start relaxing indoor masks requirements. Fauci replied, "I think so, and I think you're going to probably be seeing that as we go along, and as more people get vaccinated."
Many Douglas County residents told KEZI 9 News that the mask mandates should’ve been lifted a long time ago.
“I think we should go down from masks because bugs are here for life and I don’t want masks for life,” said Linn Reader. “I like seeing smiles are sharing with people.”
Others said they think it’s time, especially with all the vaccines that have been administrated in the last few months.
“I think it’s time to get back to normal again,” said Neil Johnson. “I think especially after these vaccines, hopefully after all the FDA approvals and everything gets passed, people can get back to normal.”
Last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention relaxed mask wearing mandates outdoors. However, they said whether or not you are fully vaccinated, you should still wear a mask when in indoor public areas like malls, movie theaters or museums.
Fauci also said if we get a majority of the population vaccinated, he expects things to look a lot more normal by next Mother’s Day.
