Douglas County sheriff seeking re-election

Hanlin has worked for the sheriff’s office since 1989 and was first elected sheriff in 2009.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin announced Friday he is running for a fourth term.

Hanlin has worked for the sheriff’s office since 1989 and was first elected sheriff in 2009.

“I am grateful for the many years of support Douglas County residents have given me and my office, and I would be greatly honored to be allowed to serve another,” Hanlin wrote.

He said revenue streams that support the sheriff’s office are declining and said securing funding for public safety services would be a priority for him.

In April 2018, a photo of Hanlin with his pants down was posted online. At the time, he said it was probably the work of an ex-girlfriend.

In 2013, he shared a conspiracy video that questioned if the Sandy Hook school massacre was real.
