EUGENE, Ore. – Despite plans to open the new Downtown Riverfront Park this month, the project is experiencing delays, city officials say.
Why is the park taking a longer to complete? Officials cite construction delays caused by nationwide supply chain issues and labor shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also playing a role, according to city officials, are recent rules from Oregon OSHA requiring employers to take extra steps to protect their workers from heat as the state has been experiencing an unusually hot, dry summer.
At this time, the park is expected to open in late fall.
The $14 million, three-acre riverfront park is the first part of a project aiming to revitalize the area.
