EUGENE, Ore. -- Police arrested a man accused of hitting a man on his bike and then leaving the scene on Thursday.

They said it happened at 2:43 a.m. When they arrived at Chambers Street, south of West 2nd Avenue, they said they found the injured 27-year-old victim in the road. His bike was also severely damaged, police said.

Eugene Springfield Fire took him to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An officer at the scene said he located part of a car headlight assembly by the bike. While doing an area check, the officer found a vehicle on West 2nd Avenue, east of Chambers, with its hazard lights on and Christopher Randall Ross, 53, of Eugene, trying to change a flat right front tire.

Police said his car was missing some parts and had damage consistent with the crash.

After an investigation, Ross was charged with felony hit and run, driving under the influence of intoxicants, fourth-degree assault and reckless driving.
