EUGENE, Ore. -- A man is facing charges after police said he caused a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 105 Friday and left the scene.

Police arrested Marc Joseph McPhail, 55, of Springfield for driving under the influence after investigating the hit-and-run crash, which shut down I-105 for hours.

At about 12:15 p.m. Friday, police said they saw a red Chevrolet Impala speeding on 7th Avenue before merging onto I-105 eastbound and hitting another car. That car then struck three more cars.

Police said the driver of the Chevy ran from the scene, crossed the westbound lanes and entered a nearby neighborhood. They contacted the driver at Pentagon Federal Credit Union.

McPhail faces charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, second-degree assault and failure to perform the duties of a driver.
