REEDSPORT, Ore. – A man is dead after a log truck crashed on Thursday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Rhett Curran, 54, of Lakeside was about a half mile up Loon Lake Road when the truck crashed.

Deputies responded at about 9:30 a.m. and found the 1989 Freightliner over an embankment. It was mostly submerged in Mill Creek, they said.

Curran was declared dead at the scene, and Mast Brothers Towing helped recover the truck.

Investigators said speed was a factor in the crash.

Douglas County Public Works, Lower Umpqua Hospital Ambulance, and Reedsport police assisted.
