ALBANY, Ore. -- An Albany man was taken to the hospital after being hit by a train Thursday afternoon.

Police said Clark Boyd, 51, was under the influence of alcohol at the time. His injuries are not life threatening.

It happened in the area of Geary Street near SE 4th Avenue at about 2:40 p.m. The crash involved a Union Pacific freight train.

Boyd was conscious when officers arrived and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.

Police said Boyd told investigators he was walking along the tracks when he was hit by the train engine's cattle guard.

The railroad and surrounding crossings were closed for about 45 minutes.

Investigators are continuing to look into the incident.
