LINCOLN, Neb. -- The U.S. Drought Monitor's latest update Thursday morning now indicates 100% of the state of Oregon is in a moderate drought or worse.

According to the National Drought Mitigation Center, the drought in Oregon is the most severe since 2015.

The update also shows the historic drought over the entire Western United States worsening, with over half of Arizona and Utah now classified as being in an exceptional drought.

The conditions bring increased concern as Oregon prepares for wildfire season, set to start in the coming weeks.

Eastern Douglas County and Central Lane County, including Eugene, Springfield, and Roseburg, are in an extreme drought.  On the drought scale, this is the fourth most severe out of the five categories.
