EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Emeralds are making an effort to be more inclusive within the Latino community.

Tuesday afternoon, the team unveiled its new "Copa de la Diversion" initiative and branding.

Officials with the Ems say this initiative has been in the works for two years. During the past six months, they've focused on what the identity would mean for the team and got input from the local Latino community.

"At the end of the day, we wanted to tell a story, we wanted something that was really welcoming and something that the community can take pride in," said Allan Benavides, the General Manager for the Eugene Emeralds.

Benavides said for six games out of their season the team will be re-branded as the "Monarcas de Eugene", or the Monarchs of Eugene.

The Ems will offer Hispanic food and music, and Sol Cervesa will be the official beer of the team all season long.

Benavides said the team even hopes to get a Spanish speaking broadcaster.
