EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene Pro Rodeo will not be held this summer at the Oregon Horse Center, organizers announced Tuesday.
The statement said the decision was made to protect the well-being of the community and was made in consideration of their sponsors. Organizers worried the rodeo would place a burden on the businesses that sponsor it, as many have been hit hard financially due to the pandemic.
“As you all know this year has been like no other, we’re living through an unparalleled moment in history,” the statement said.
Organizers also acknowledged the people who help make the rodeo happen every year, saying they don’t want to put them or their families at risk.
They also thanked those who attend and participate in the yearly event, which has been around for nearly three decades.
“Although we are incredibly sad to be missing out on this annual celebration, we hope that this helps in any way to keep your businesses running and lightens your burden even in the slightest,” they said.
