EUGENE, Ore. -- You don't need to take a trip to space to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The Eugene Science Center is holding Apollopalooza this week.
The celebration honors the historic journey with multiple events that kicked off Tuesday with the "Lunar Launch Adult Night."
While Tuesday's party was for adults only, the science center events for kids of all ages are going on until Saturday, July 20 -- the day astronauts landed on the moon 50 years ago.
The events include a model rocket workshop, film screening and special presentations.
"It's something that I think will hopefully inspire our next generation of scientists and engineers to continue exploring our solar system and beyond," said Harley Sharp with the Eugene Science Center.
The festival on Saturday starts at 10 a.m. and includes live music and food.
