EUGENE, Ore. -- Like many on December 7th, a Eugene veteran is remembering when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor 77 years ago, killing thousands of people.

Crescent Park Senior Living off of Coburg Road in Eugene has nearly 30 veterans living in their complex.

KEZI spoke to Hubert Ray Powell who is one of those veterans.

He told KEZI he was drafted into the military right after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

"It was such a shock, it was different than any day I’ve ever had because it was a shock to know that they had attacked us and caught us a sleep at the stick," said Powell.

Powell served from 1941 until 1943.

He said he was honored to serve his country and said he appreciates all the men and women who serve today.
